Christmas is almost here. I'm so excited to be going back to Charlotte to visit the fam. I'm working until the day before I leave(This Tue) so I don't really have time to do all the Christmas shopping that I wanted to...but that's not really the main point of Christmas anyway(*chuckles nervously*)

It's sleeting/snowing now, which makes riding my bike to and from work a bit of a hassle, gotta save up for a car:(
alright well here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...just in case I don't get the chance to do so in between now and the end of the year.....

I took a k1 class at my gym and now my butt feels weird...that aside it was quite an enjoyable experience, I think ill go back next week. Been busy getting prepared to visit the states, lots of stuff to organize and loose ends to tie up. Having an okonomiyaki/poker night tonight...got some friends coming over...should be a good time, I just need to go easy on the booze so as not to go on tilt:)

I guess it's been sometime since my last post...as seems to be the pattern in the second half of this year, I've actually just been busting tail...just got back from work 30 minutes ago and am about to head back out...On Saturday night we had a big company Christmas party...in a Mongolian yurt no less I'll post pics as soon as I get my hands on them, It was a blast although I drank too much and sang some off key karaoke..
In other news I just saw this bad ass movie called "the brothers bloom" I wasn't expecting anything going but I loved it...watch it, or else...
Other big news...I was able to bench 200lbs for my max!!!! If that news doesn't cheer you up I don't know what will.
alright gotta get ready to go....time waits for no man...

Damn...I just realized my last post was quite some time ago. I've been using facebook to update and stuff much to the neglect of my blog...I've been working seven days a week of late, granted its only the afternoons/evenings on weekdays and mornings/early afternoon on weekends, but it's enough to keep me busy. I read that book that you see the cover of on the left side of this post(weird layout issues), quite good, I recommend it for anyone interested in the subject....

In other news went out clubbing last night, got in at 6 in the morning:) Gossip was rundown(SOOOo Bad in fact) and Infinity was good as usual but too crowded...I'm gonna go out Thursday or Friday nights if I can help it from now on...alright I'm off to grab my coffee, good morning everyone

I recently had the honor of seeing Jim Caviezel's new film. I feel compelled to write something up on it...Alas it seems nothing I write can truly do the film justice... In case you don't know the movie of which I speak I'll bring you up to speed. Jim Caviezel's character "Canan" is an alien that has crash landed in a fjord somewhere in Scandinavia roughly 2000 years ago, bringing with him a stowaway Alien/monster (note I capitalized Alien, Ridley Scott fans take note). The local Vikings while at first mistrustful eventually follow every cliche in the book and take him as in as one of their own, in fact in the end he becomes king, yes, king...I've tried to rationalize this film, even excuse it but I' come up short...I need some clue as to WHY? WHY...JIM?I'm unable to and so without much further ado I leave you with some pictures that will soon have you wondering the same thing I am

To smile or not to smile that is the question

I was just thinking about that old saying that it takes like 50 muscles to frown and like 10 to smile or thereabouts...first off this strikes me as a bunch of BS, but I don't want to do the person who came up with this charming sentiment a disservice so I've given it some thought. There are only two possibilities 1) this is true

2) this is a bold faced lie

Ergo I decided to test this little saying out in a real world test. As an unfortunate byproduct of only having one test subject the margin of error in this test is +- 100 percent

I, contrary to popular opinion, am not a doctor...but one could say I have an "invested interest" in human physiology. That being said you are just going to have to trust me on this...Soooo here were the parameters for the study:

a)Smile for 60 seconds

b)Frown for 60 seconds

Result A: I only managed to keep the grin for 25 seconds after which the pain became too much and I was forced to desist

Result B: I kept the frown on my face for the entire duration. Which subsequently brought a smile to my face(the irony was not lost on me)

Conclusion:

Smiling is such hard work I recommend it only for Mon-Fri, and try and find someone to pay you for it. Frowning goes hand in hand with a bath and candles...In fact when in the bath I recommend you frown the entire time...you'll feel the results of your relaxation in no time...On the flip side I suggest smiling in moderation much like working out, maybe 3 sets of 8 reps a day or so, what with the need to stave off muscular atrophy in ones face

This is a delightful game I found in my english teaching book, seems to involve 2 teams with opposing religious views shouting at each other from across the room...at some juncture in the game you can and I quote "hit" an opposing player...the rule book actually states that you can hit them "hard" ... ok so on further inspection its hit the "palm" but I see this quickly getting out of control

there's also something to do with a prison, not quite sure what significance it holds

Ok so CNN tells me that these guys(the jellyfish not the divers) are soon to be floating around this area...apparently its a recent phenomenon, only in the past few years due to reasons that are unclear, they've made their way into the sea of Japan...so needless to say, I'll be staying out of the water for the rest of my natural life...
....I just went to the beach over the weekend, beautiful place, put some picks up on facebook if you wanna check them out...until next time, stay out of the water....

This is actually a re-post of something I put on my old blog 3-4 years ago, I stumbled on it the other day and it made me chuckle though:)

The other night some friends and I were discussing the way that beer companies advertise themselves (eg. Budweiser and Coors both trying to convince people that there is actually a difference between the rigorous quality testing that Mr Anheuser-Busch III personally oversees and "Rocky Mountain Freshness" whatever that is) so feeling that the public just wasn't getting the point about what beer truly was superior I decided to suggest a new Ad campaign for whoever was brave enough to use is(since so far I have no takers I'll just use Coors as my example) drum roll please.........
A car filled with young, good looking hipsters is ripping down the road in a 30,000 dollar car, top down, wind in their hair...empty bottles of beer kicking around their feet...in each of their hands is a half empty bottle of Coors...suddenly out of nowhere....*whirwhirwhir* sirens flashing in the night...the convertible pulls over...the kids look at each other, faces full of unspoken fear...the officer gets out of his vehicle, you can only see his boots....he approaches the car...looks at the group of ridiculously hot models who are even now flashing their pearly whites at him...grabs the beer from the driver's hand and turns it over so that he(and us the TV audience) can see the label...looks back at the inebriated young man, takes a swing and with a wink says the only line in the whole Ad..."GOOD CHOICE"
Hands the beer back and waves them on...the closing scene is a shot from between the cops legs of the car weaving back onto the road...
You know what they say, " there's no such thing as bad publicity"

well it had better have been for how much I was paying for it. Here's what happened. I've been in need of a white dress shirt to go with my suit that I recently purchased in Milan(ok so it was actually Pavia and well sort of on the outskirts of Pavia but you'll be the only ones who know that).
So long story short I walk into the local "Men's Warehouse" and I tell the salesman what I'm looking for...he looks at me grins, tells me he loves my scarf, and he and the attractive sales woman joke about stealing it and putting it in his car...ahhh I'm feeling pretty good about myself. He proceeds to measure me and with a flourish produces a shirt so perfectly tailored to my odd shape I'd swear he made it on the spot...
"Here's the one you want" He declares with another of those unctious smiles
"Can I try it on?" I ask in a timid voice, this man is way to smooth for me
"You sure can!"
I try it on in the dressing room and walk out to the surround mirrors to have a look...
"oh my gosh I love his shoes too"
I turn to my left, the afore mentioned attractive woman is pretending not to notice that I heard her and continues to admire my footwear...I'm beginning to feel like the first time a girl let me touch her boobs, good... and yet oh so selfconscious.
" I like it" I declare with a touch of panache
" looks good" says the man
I head back to the dressing room...and as I'm taking it off I glance down at the price tag...BAM!! $54 +tax I'm looking at close to 60 big ones, I wasn't aware you could even find a shirt for that much if you looked, I'm not talking about shopping on 5th avenue here, Matthews,NC is many things...haute couture is not one of them.
So I start thinking to myself, how can I get out of this? I look out through the slats in the dressing room and I see them both out there waiting for me...damn
And like the animal who realizes it's been had and there's no more point in running I surrendered...In a trance like state I walk to the register, and charge $60 to my dwindling bank account...I'm so disturbed by what I've done that I almost get in an accident as I pull out of the parking lot...
Don't stress though, this story has a happy ending...and I'll wrap it up in two sentences. I came to the following morning and realized I didn't need to take this...ergo I returned the shirt and there ends the tale...

Man I love this city, Went to the Porterhouse again last night...best beer in the city(well thats what they say)...I'd hazard to agree with them...there's live music 7 days a week in this 3 story brewery which is pretty awesome...saw a traditional bagpiper the other night and last night there was a more standard cover band...but they were quite good...
alright well I'm off for another jaunt around the city before taking the bus to the airport...

Ok, so I've recovered from all the festivities that so vigorously imposed themselves upon me and now I'm facing a dilemma. As some of you may know, I'm soon to be leaving Milan for good(If I see you in person I'll explain all the reasoning behind it, I'm far to worked up to make sense over the net). I'll be heading to Charlotte for a month or so and then maybe to Japan, or to just about anywhere else on the globe for the matter, I haven't got it all quite sussed out yet. But I digress, lets get back the that problem I mentioned...to sum it up...for Christmas I received a bottle of Jack Daniels, a bottle of Vodka, a 4 pack of Guinness, 2 bottles of Spumante, I foolishly bought a 6 pack of Krohmbacker(or however you spell that) and to top it all off New Years was an open bar so I didn't even begin to delve into my own stash...you're probably wondering what I'm going on about, doesn't sound like much of a problem does it?...or does it? I leave on the morning of the 11th that means I have 6 evenings to "take care of my problem"... now I'm not one to shy away from a little of grandpa's ol' cough medicine but my livers all ready complaining from the CRAZZZY NYs party the other night...to add to it my friends all have "problems" of their own, I'm starting to get concerned...the good news is that I have more than enough problems to want to drink away, so the incentive is there...I just need the resolve

ps. my comp crashed on the 20th of December and I lost all my data from the past 4 years of my life...lyrics, music...tons of photo's...artwork..the list goes on...I don't care about the stuff I can replace,but the stuff I can't ....(this is a little of that incentive I was talking about)

I was browsing the MO site the other day and what did I find? Another man out to lay claim to my new beautiful brazilian girlfriend, it's sick really...what kind of man photoshops his head onto the body of another man to show his friends that he was up close and personal with a woman he's never even met!...needless to say I was quite put out...I figured this was the best place to educate people about what was going down...well actually I'm not even sure, it just doesn't seem right...look how happy I was in that photo, ,my life has been turned upside down...I guess Ill just move on though, I'm pretty much over it by now...I mean I've lost a lot of weight...but it's probably a good thing in the end...

Frank McCourt - 'Tis

I just finished this book last night. For those of you who don't know, Frank McCourt is the author of Angela's Ashes(if THAT doesn't ring any bells, stop reading this and go get your hands on a copy,it's one of my favorite books, and you owe it to yourself to read it, I don't normally recommend books with this much gusto I'll have you know)

This is basically a continuation of that book starting from when he's about 18 and has just arrived in NY. He takes you through the struggles and numerous disasters that befall him with a sense of humor and perceptiveness that only he can. You'll find yourself turning the pages with a mix of curiosity and trepidation for what around the next page.
In the end though I was a little disappointed in the book overall, why I'm not so sure.I think the fact that 'Tis wasn't what I hoped for is not so much a reflection on the book itself, but rather a tribute to the masterpiece that is Angela's Ashes, By writing such a good book initially, he raised a bar so high that he just couldn't top it. 'Tis is still better than 90% of the books out there so when you're done devouring Angela's Ashes I do recommend you read this one as well, I only wish I could be as excited about the sequel as I was about the first book.

I got to thinking the other night, as I was going to bed, about how someone can still ruin your carefully thought out argument with the word "whatever". It's so juvenile and petulant but at the same time it's like the ultimate wild card.I can remember when I was 11 and discovered that you could answer somebody with the word "why" and you could keep them running around in circles, brings back fond memories:)
well this is more or less the same thing, only more dangerous. There's a sort of verbal cold war that goes on in every argument when neither side wants to use it because they realize the other party has the same capability and if they were to use it, the argument would never recover. I can see you shaking your head in disagreement, maybe you don't see how this could work for you?
Indulge me, next time someone approaches you, you know they've been working on an angle so foolproof it took them the whole of previous night to iron out all the kinks, evidenced by the red-rimmed eyes they're sporting over cocky grin. Wait, it's very important not to pull out your secret weapon too early, timing is everything. Wait, as he delivers the specious argument a feeling of unease will begin to come over his face, he was expecting panic...but no! And now he knows... at just that moment, let loose the hounds of war...the word seems to hang in the air for an indeterminable amount of time...and then the mushroom cloud fills the room...you've done it...pat yourself on the back...three cheers for puerility(that's my word for the day:)! If he tries to counter, use it again! there's is no such thing as inappropriate force in the war of words...vanquish all, with"whatever" at your side it will be pure poetry...

Our Tax System Explained

I found this to be amusing as well as informative:

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten
comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go
something like this:

The first four men (The poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the
arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all
such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily
beer by $20." Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the
first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they
divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They
realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from
everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up
being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be
fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded
to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to
drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare
their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20,"declared the sixth man. He pointed to
the tenth man," but he got $10!" "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth
man. "I only saved a dollar, too It's unfair that he got ten times more than
I!" "That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back
when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!" "Wait a minute,"
yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The
system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down
and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they
discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of
them for even half of the bill!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how
our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most
benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being
wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start
drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Things have been busy busy...and our internet connection dropped out for a few days so I neglected to post anything. My new camera finally arrived, I'm loving it. I think people are starting to get annoyed with me snapping of shots of their faces in the morning and stuff...but I'm sure once the novelty wears off I'll be a bit more judicious in my picture taking...
I'm recording a couple new songs, nothing to do with spirit tree...it's more just for fun...the style is a bit more unique:) I hope to put out an EP with 5 songs or so in the next little while. I'll post it up here when I do...
We all went out for a dinner at that same go-cart race track the other night...I played the bass for our acoustic setup...it was fun and the food (and vino) was incredible...

That's right, I did. August Burns Red were in town and I now wish I had a neck brace. The Venue was SMALL, which is rad!...probably max 800 people or so could fit and there were probably only 250 -350 there. One thing though...Italians DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MOSH. In the States there's always that jerk at every concert who indiscriminately flails his arms and legs around causing major bodily harm to people around him...well he seems to have given moshing lessons to every last one of the people in the pit last night, don't get me wrong, I'm all about going a little loco but there are some ground rules...punching is NOT allowed...Kicking other people in the knees...Not Allowed...trying to crowd surf on top of some girls who seemed to be afflicted with dwarfism...Not Cool.
In any case I wasn't going to let them ruin the night. They were amazing live...really got out and gave it their all...you've got to be in shape to be THAT hardcore...I took a few pics but they're on someone else's camera...Ill get him to send them to me when he has time...JB gave me a pick which was pretty cool...I was just reaching up to give him 5 and when I brought my hand back there it was glowing in all its splendor...

oh on a side note I met Fratello Metallo! He's this Monk who played at Gods of Metal...he's a new bottle and then some...He just came walking in the club...I shook his hand and he patted me on the shoulder...I think I amused him...

here are some pics of my amps...the Line6 spidervalve(running into a 1960 lead cab) is what I use for gigging and "official" practice. I use the Marshall valvestate for when I'm playing by myself and don't need to cut through too much...I run the PODxt into the valvestate and the Line6 short board into the Spidervalve...Ill post something about the guitars in a later post...I made a video tour as well...its not very well done though...Ill post it later today

A couple days ago I competed in a two hour gocart race(there were 3 people on each team so we switched every 15min). It might not sound so thrilling, but these things are fast...I wiped out once and have the cuts to prove it:) there were 8 teams, 2 from our home...we were the worst...which was cool since we got to vie for 7th and 8th place...which ill have you know my team won by 2 whole laps...

here's the track...the guys who own it are our friends so they invite us over from time to time...anyway I haven't time to write or do anything else so I'm posting this to buy myself some time..:)

Book Review #1

I just finished this book a couple days ago. It's a tale of murder and corruption set in aristocratic Napoleonic-era London. We all know Bernard Cornwell from his Sharpe series of course, and this book is told in the same style and flow of those esteemed books(I presume, as I've never actually read a single one). It's a good book if you don't really think about it. The fact the the protagonist is named "Rider Sandman" tells you about all you need to know, but just in case, I'll fill you in.
Plot in a nut shell: The wife of an Earl is found murdered in her boudoir and all the guilt seems to point to an effeminate painter. Sentenced to hang in less then a week, Rider Sandman is called in by the home office to investigate the case as a matter of formality. Along the way he discovers*surprise*that there's more than meets the eye. With the aid of his friends, the tough guy sergeant, the lordly cripple, and the sexually promiscuous Sally he sets off to expose the true perpetrators of this unspeakable crime. All said and done the climax is a little...anti-climatic for lack of a better word . The twist not quite so twisty, as it were. I would recommend the book though and if a sequel comes out I'd probably read it as well

This is my inaugural blog post on this my second blog attempt! I'll update as soon as I know something you don't...at this point I'm just kicking back my heels choosing what colors the text and background should be and all. I don't really like the layout yet though I'm working overtime to find something we can all enjoy...

This is the cover for our new album due out soon...it's a combination of photo manipulation and good old fashion painting all done in PScs3...took me a couple days and there's still a lot of little detailing that needs doing but I'm being lazy and probably won't do that till it's time to send it to the presses...you can listen to some of the songs on our myspace ( the links on right)
